HOME REMEDIES & REPELLANTS FOR BUG BITES

What the Experts Know

CATNIP: Attract Cats, Not Bugs

Researchers at Iowa State University have uncovered evidence that nepetalactone (the fragrant oil found in catnip) can be a more effective bug repellent than the widely used and toxic, DEET. And not just by a small margin, by as much as (100) one hundred times more effective! This season, try a tincture made from catnip. Make your own or purchase from an herbalist.

EAT A BANANA Simply eating a banana before you venture outside into the mosquitos habitat, has been known to prevent bites. Whether this is a wives tale or not, it appears that the mosquitos do not like the taste after you have eaten a banana and are less likely to bite you. They will simply land and fly off, and a banana is great for you anytime so enjoy!

NATURAL & ALTERNATIVE INSECT BITE RELIEF

Yikes!Even if you've taken all the necessary precautions (bug lights, spray repellent, a catnip tincture, fly paper, etc...)There could still be that unavoidable bite. The area becomes red, swollen and itchy, annoyingly itchy!

The following is a list of some of the over the counter natural products that can be used to relieve symptoms from insect bites:

  • HERBAL SORE THROAT SPRAY applied to the affected area is good for itch relief. The herbs in the spray are useful in decreasing inflammation, strengthen the immune system, and relieve pain.
  • UNSEASONED MEAT TENDERIZER made into a paste and spread over the itchy area will help decrease inflammation.
  • CUR CUMIN made into a paste and put on the bite will also relieve the symptoms.
  • HOMEOPATHIC CALENDULA as a cream works, as well.

All of these remedies can be applied to the skin several times a day.
