Pet Rocks, a history of... It all began in the mind of a man named Gary Dahl, from the Northern California area. During April of 1975... He and his buddies were hangin' out and making light of the idea of having a rock for a pet when the 
lightbulb of inspiration prompted Dahl to create a manual entitled, "Pet Rock Training Manual". He then purchased some uniformly shaped Rosarito Beach Stones at a penny each, packaged them in a box resembling a pet carrier and included the manual. From that point, the Pet Rock was introduced in the August Gift Show in San Francisco and later in New York where it was picked up by Neiman-Marcus. Eventually, Newsweek ran a story on Dahls' simple, yet original concept. He was even a guest on The Tonight Show, twice! By October, Dahl was shipping thousands of Pet Rocks, daily! After a year, the fad faded away, but Gary became an instant millionaire. Now the Pet Rock is considered part of Pop Culture and can be found on a multitude of websites and on ebay.
