Uncertainty surrounds the future of health care and is forcing us all to question how to obtain wellness, as health insurance becomes unaffordable or unattainable. As a culture and a society we have a learned dependency on insurance and the health care system to keep us well. Our commercial health care system is essentially disease care; as long as we remain sick, we create more dependency upon health insurance. Most current alternative health care systems* are seemingly out of reach, as a wide cross section of insurance plans have no alternative health care coverage, and our level of education about the benefits are generally low. It seems we can't see the proverbial forest for the trees, but there is hope! No matter the outcome of health care reform, we as individuals can take control of our own health and wellness.
Educating ourselves about nutrition is the foundational
soil to plant our life giving roots into. What we eat and drink is taken for granted and at the same time is one of the most important decisions we make everyday. Lurking in the roots of the wellness tree is emotional health, how we feel dictates our choices and outcomes about everything, every moment, each day. Movement and physical development depend on our readiness and motivation to make a shift in existing detrimental habits of complacency.
Wellness is a complete package, for example an Aspen tree cannot survive without connection to the entire root system. Like the Aspen, our wholeness will not survive without a complete connection of body mind and soul.
Relying on medical professionals and insurance coverage to cure our ills, and somehow making us feel better too, belies the very core of responsibility for own individual prevention and care.
Our health care is not only focused on whether we are insured, true health care is Whole Body Mind and Soul care by the individual.

*Many alternative health care systems have been around for centuries, while what we now consider "traditional" health care, is really a recent development.
Within This Tree
Within this tree
another tree
inhabits the same body;
within this stone
another stone rests,
its many shades of grey
the same,
its identical
surface and weight.
And within my body,
another body,
whose history, waiting,
sings; there is no other body,
it sings,
there is no other world.
