What Does AZ Homegrown Solutions Do?

In 2009 they...
• Hosted approximately 300 individuals in sustainability classes and workshops
• Developed 10 action groups with approximately 180 people/members in action groups
• Connected with approximately 200 members that currently have a garden or participate in a community or school garden
• Donated 6 tons (12,000 pounds) of produce gleaned from local citrus trees by volunteers and donated to local nonprofit organizations and food banks
• Planted 110 native trees, established a community garden, and installed an irrigation system in the Nuestro Barrio neighborhood
• Provided over 1500 packages of seeds and 500 plant starts to over a dozen community and school gardens
• Provided over 500 plant starts to the Downtown Phoenix Public Market for their 4th birthday celebration
• Made two microloans: one for furthering the education of one of our main volunteers and one to support the creation of our Community Exchange Table
• Won a $5,000 grant to install a water harvesting cistern at one of our partner sites, Horses Help
• Won a $15,000 grant to develop site plans and plant shade trees, native edible trees and urban orchards at 4 partner sites, Herrera School, Manzanita School, The Center for Native and Urban Wildlife and the Southwest Autism Research and Resource Center
• Had volunteers donate over 20,000 hrs of service within the first 10 months of operation!
